Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent load applied to main jounal bearing from being excessively increased by counterweights for a crankshafts in a V type 12-cylinder internal combustion engine, by arranging the counterweights in such specific directions that inertia force exerted to each journal bearing becomes minimum.
CONSTITUTION: Counterweights 1F, 6R, 3R, 4F are positioned in the directions of 180° with respect to rotary members B1, B6, B2, B4, respectively, and the phases of each pair of the counterweights in each group are shifted by a crank angle of α=60°±15° relative to each other. Further, the counterweights 1F, 1R in the first group and the counterweights 6F, 6R in the second group are positioned in the same directions, respectively, and the counterweights 3F, 3R in the second group and the counterweights 4F, 4R are positioned in the same directions, respectively. The counterweights 1F, 1R, 6F, 6R in the first and fourth groups and the counterweights 3F, 3R, 4F, 4R in the second and third groups are positioned in the opposite directions, respectively.
