Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the catalyst for preparing phthalic anhydride having high selectivity and stabilized activity, by carrying a catalytically active substance based on porous anatase type titanium dioxide with a limited specific surface area and vanadium oxide on a porous carrier.
CONSTITUTION: A catalytically active substance containing 1W20pts.wt. V2O5 and 99W80pts.wt. porous anatase type titanium dioxide (TiO2) with an average particle size of 0.4W0.7μ and a specific surface area of 10W60m2/g and, furthermore, 0.01W1pts. Nb (as Nb2O5), 0.05W1.2pts. one or more oxide of K, Cs, Rb and Tl, 0.05W1.2pts. P (as P2O5) and 0.5W10pts. Sb (as Sb2O3), based on 100pts. first-mentioned two oxides, is prepared. Said catalytically active substance is carried on an appropriate porous carrier in an amt. of 15W200g/100cc. When this catalyst is used in preparing phthalic anhydride by catalytic gas-phase oxidation of o-xylene or naphthalene with molecular oxygen, the yield can be increased.
