Abstract

PURPOSE:To incorporate a high magnetic performance in a permanent magnet material by heat treating R2TM17 type permanent magnet alloy containing rare earth metals (R) and transition metals (TM) in a lump state and magnetically hardening the alloy. CONSTITUTION:1Kg of alloy containing, for example, 23.8% of Sm, 6.5% of Cu, 15.6% Fe, 3.2% or Zr and the residue of Co is molten in a high frequency melting furnace, and the molten alloy is cast in a mold. 100g of lumps of thus obtained alloy ingots are solution heat treated in Ar gas, are then cooled to the room temperature, the alloy is then heated, for example, in Ar gas in a heat treatment furnace, is aged, and is then cooled. Subsequently, this alloy is wet pulverized in Daiflon by a ball mill into particles having 15mum of average grain size, epoxy resin is added to the particles, the mixture is then mixed, is pressure molded in a magnetic field press, and is further hydraulically pressed. Thus, the variation in the composition of the alloy can be extremely reduced, and high magnetic performance can be incorporated in the alloy.
