Abstract

PURPOSE: To cut off the fusion cutting ingot on the bottom surfaces at the leading and trailing end faces of an ingot with one unit of tool rest by providing the tool rest which is turned and controlled with a central part as a fulcrum below a roller table for conveyance.
CONSTITUTION: At the point of the time when an ingot 2 which is fusion-cut to prescribed length is conveyed by means of a roller table 1 for conveyance and its leading end passes by a required distance from the position of the blade 5 of a tool rest 4, the leading end of the slab 2 is detected with a photoelectric detector 9, and the table 1 stops. At the same time, the tool rest 4 is turned by a liquid pressure cylinder 7 until it contacts the bottom surface of the ingot 2. Thence, the table 1 is operated in a reverse direction and the fusion cutting ingot 2a of the bottom surface at the leading end of the ingot 2 is cut with the blade 5.
