Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a floating device, which includes a nozzle having inwardly directed gas jet outlets facing each other, the quantity of air jet from one of the jet outlets being made controllable to hold a striplike material in a floating state irrespective of the thickness and without deforming the material.
CONSTITUTION: In a device for supporting a strip 1 in a floating state by jetting pressurized gas supplied to a nozzle box 4 from outlets 3a and 3b provided on opposite sideds of the nozzle 2 disposed in the width direction of the metal strip 1, a jet outlet blocking member 5 shall be provided near the jet outlet 3b. If the strip 1 is thin, the outlet 3b is closed by turning a plate member 7 of a closing plate 5 about a hinge 8. Thus, part of gas jet from the outlet 3a is caused to flow as shown by (b) by a projecting piece 6. Thus, the strip 1 can be supported in floating state as desired without being deformed.
