Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an inverter thrysitor from being broken by a method wherein the thyristor which turns ON at detecting a commutation failure is connected in parallel to a capacitor, in the inverter device in which filter capacitor is connected in parallel to DC power source. CONSTITUTION:The DC power source 1 is connected in series with a line breaker and the inverter device through a reactor 3 as an input filter and the capacitor 4. The inverter device is comprised of the thyristors 5-8, capacitors 11, 12 connected in parallel to each phase and reactors 15-18. To the capacitor 4, a discharge circuit is connected which consists of a series circuit of a resistor 19 and a thyristor 20. If the commutation failure occured at this time, the discharge currents from the capacitors 11, 12 are detected at CTs 13, 14 and the line breaker 2 is opened to protect the inverter. At the same time, the thyristor 20 is turned ON to cause the electric charge of the capacitor 4 to be discharged and the thyrsitors 5-8 are prevented from breakage.
