Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution of an A/D converter, by using the voltage of the charge storage element which is charged and discharged by the up-pulse and the down-pulse of an up-down counter respectively for the comparison voltage. CONSTITUTION:When the charging voltage B of the charge storage element 7 is lower than the voltage level of the analog input A at the time point t1, the output C of the comparator becomes a high level with the gate 8 turned on. Then the output of the pulse generator 10 is applied to the up-terminal of the up-down counter 13 as well as sent to the charging circuit 11 to charge the element 7. When the voltage B becomes equal to the input voltage at the time point t2, the output of the comparator 5 turns to a low level to discontinue the charging. With reduction of the input A, the output of the comparator 6 becomes a high level. Thus the output of the generator 10 is applied to the down-terminal of the counter 13 as well as to the discharging circuit 12. Thus the element 7 is discharged. The digital value corresponding to the input A is obtained from the output of the counter 13.
