Abstract

PURPOSE:To raise the punchability of a carbon steel strip by controlling the temperatures of finish rolling and coil winding during the period of hot rolling within specific ranges in the manufacture of a hot-rolled steel strip by hot-rolling a steel or alloy steel slab for mechanical structures. CONSTITUTION:A hot-rolled steel slab is manufactured by hot-rolling a carbon steel or alloy steel for mechanical structures, containing >=0.3% C and >=0.6% Mn, where the finish rolling temperature during the hot rolling operation is controlled to a temperature range of 810-840 deg.C and also the winding temperatur of the steel strip coil is controlled to a temperature range of 580-620 deg.C. Thus, a steel strip having a structure consisting of a mixture of pearlite and ferrite and excellent punchability can be manufactured by only hot rolling without spheroidizing annealing treatment.
