Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide silicon dioxide manufactured by a wet method with superior water repellency and settling resistance by a simple means by allowing the silicon dioxide to contact with a higher alcohol and a higher fatty acid or the like in a liq. state.
CONSTITUTION: Silicon dioxide manufactured by a wet method is allowed to contact to a treating agent consisting of a ≥12 C higher alcohol such as myristyl alcohol or stearyl alcohol and a ≥8 C higher fatty acid such as myristic acid or stearic acid, an ester type surfactant such as a phosphoric acid ester type nonionic surfactant, or a ≥20 C higher fatty acid ester, in the liq. state. The kind and quantity of the treatagent depend on water repellency and matting effect to be provided. Silicon dioxide coated with this agent is used as a product as it is, or it is stabilized by heat treatment.
