Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate oxygen of high purity with a simple apparatus by using a solid electrolyte membrane made of La, Sr and Co oxide and having predetermined compressive strength and a predetermined thickness.
CONSTITUTION: Oxygen is separated from an oxygen-contg. gas through a solid electrolyte membrane based on a metal oxide represented by general formula LaxSr1-xCoO3 (where x=0.1W0.9) and having oxygen ion conductivity, electron conductivity, ≥200kg/cm2 compressive strength and ≤1mm thickness. Airtight chambers are placed at both sides of the membrane, a mixed gas contg. oxygen gas is fed to one chamber, and the conditions of both the chambers are set so that the oxygen partial pressure of one chamber is made higher than that of the other chamber. The temp. is usually 400W1,200, more preferably 500W1,000°C.
