Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a high strength steel of increased abrasion resistance for the industrial machine and apparatus parts etc. by cold working a carbon steel or alloy steel then nitriding or carbonitriding the same and further forming sulfide on the surface thereof. CONSTITUTION:A carbon steel or alloy steel is cold plastically worked. Thence, it is subjected to ion nitriding or ion carbonitriding. Following to this, an S source such as H2S is introduced into the same furnace, and sulfide having deformation ability and self-lubricity is formed on the surface of the nitrided or carbonitrided layer by an ion sulfo-nitriding or ion sulfo-carburizing or ion sulfo-carbonitriding method. The high strength steel which is prevented of seizure and galling occuring in the initial period of abrasion are prevented and of which abrasion resistance improved without losing strength is obtained by this treatment.
