Abstract
PURPOSE:To effectively reduce the crop loss of the blooming work to be carried out by the reversing mill, by applying the rolling roll to both of opposite side planes at either the top or the bottom of the steel ingot, in order to form the projection, and then, by rolling those two side planes. CONSTITUTION:The rolling rolls 8, 8, are applied to at least one pair of opposite side planes of at least one of top and bottom of the ingot 7, in order to form a projection 9 in a T-shape. Next, the rolling rolls 8, 8, are applied to the ingot in the same direction with a high draft percentage in order to eliminate the projection 9. Hereupon, the extension DELTAL of the projection 9 is desired to be about 200-300mm., by reason of preventing excessive rolling load. If the extension DELTAL is smaller than this range, the height DELTAH of the projection 9 tends to creep up toward the crop end 10, so that the effect of reducing the crop loss is declined. Besides, the height DELTAH of the projection 9 is most desired to fall in a range given by the formula. According to the present method, the overlap and the fishtail in directions of thickness and breadth of the ingot 7 can be reduced.
