Abstract

PURPOSE:To make an optical branching filter higher in accuracy, easier to handle and smaller in size by providing multilayered interference films in the optical paths within two spherical lens optical systems and forming the spherical lens optical systems into one piece. CONSTITUTION:Spherical lens systems 17 and 17' consisting in enclosing spherical lenses 14 and 14' respectively with transparent optical materials 15, 16, and 15', 16' ae formed in one body by interposing multilayered interference films 18 between both, thereby constituting an optical branching filter 13. If the mixed waves 2 of light signal are entered the end face 19 of thus constituted optical branching filter 13, the mixed waves 2 refract within the spherical lens optical system 17 and arrive at the films 18, where they are branched to transmitted light 6 and reflected light 9 which then refract respectively in the spherical lens optical systems 17' and 17, emit from the end faces 20 and 19 and enter optical fibers 8 and 12. In this way, the similar effect to that of conventional apherical lens optical systems is obtainable except the formation of the films 18; even more, the improvement in accuracy and miniaturization are achieved because no adjusting works are required.
