Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical strength and conductivity of a positive electrode plate, by forming the electrode with an active material consisting of a conductive and reinforcing substance obtained by forming a conductive layer on the surface of synthetic resin fibers and nickel oxide, and applying a metal plating on the thus- formed electrode. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of synthetic resin fibers such as polyethylene fibers, a conductive layer is formed by a metal plating or the like to form a conductive and reinformcing material. This material is then mixed with an active material such as nickel hydroxide as well as cobalt hydroxide, paste, nickel power and the like to form a paste mixture. On both surfaces of a grid of an electrode plate, the paste mixture is applied and then dried, thereby forming a formed active material, which is thereafter subjected to an electroplating in a plating bath of nickel sulphamate so as to form a conductive matrix in the formed active material. In this constitution, the conductive layers of the reinforcing substance are mutually connected and the strength and conductively of the plate are improved.
