Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve combustion efficiency by connecting, by means of a communication passage, two combustion chambers respectively formed between a centrally concaved piston head and a projected cylinder head, and the one formed between the flat planes of the piston head and the cylinder head.
CONSTITUTION: At a nearly end of compression stroke, as illustrated in the drawing, the air inside a cylinder is inrushed from a secondary combustion chamber 6 into a primary combustion chamber 3a directly or through a path 4. The inrush of air is brought into the primary combustion chamber 3a through the path 4 to accelerate an exsisting swirl 12 further. Immediately after injected from a fuel nozzle 8, fuel starts its evaporation. When it starts firing, a drastically expanded hot burning gas flow 13 is swiftly ejected from the path 4 along with the unburnt gas to cause a swirl in the secondary combustion chamber 6. The air in the secondary combustion chamber 6 and the unburnt gas are readily mixed in adrance and completely burnt.
