Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a photoelectric output with good linearity over a wide dynamic range by controlling storage time by a charge transfer gate when illuminance is low or by an integral clear gate that resets momently disused charge when it is high. CONSTITUTION:Outputs IGC and SH or pulse control circuit PCC are inputted to the integral clear gate and charge transfer gate of solid-state image pickup device SP by way of a change-over circuit for storage time control systems. Therminal Q1 of up-down counter ADC is held at level L for a short storage time to turn on AND gate AN2, whose output ICG(F) is applied to the integral clear gate of SP to control the storage time. When light incident to solid-state image pickup device SP is dark, terminal Q1 of counter ADC is held at level H for a long storage time, and consequently AND gate AN2 is turned off, so that ICG(F) will not be applied to the integral clear gate. On the other hand, one-shot multivibrator OH operates to apply the output pulse to the charge transfer gate, accumulating signal charges in the photoelectric conversion part.
