Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the internal resistance, and prevent the damage to the separator which is due to silver oxide by either causing short-circuit between the positive and the negative electrodes for a short period of time or supplying current compulsorily after the battery is constituted, and thereby forming a silver layer over the surface of the positive electrode made of silver oxide. CONSTITUTION:A battery is constituted of a silver-oxide positive electrode 2 which is packed in a positive case 1, a zinc negative-electrode 4 which is pakced in a sealing plate 5, a separator 3, and the like. After that, a silver layer is formed on the surface of the positive electrode 2 by either causing short-circuit between the positive and the negative electrodes for a short period of time or supplying a given current compulsorily. For instance, short-circuit is caused between the positive and the negative electrodes for 5-10sec within 3min to 48hr after the battery is constituted. Here, a negative-collector side surface 5a of the sealing plate 5 which is in contact with the negative electrode is made of a metal like tin or copper which is easily amalgamated. Consequently, a silver layer is easily formed, the internal resistance is reduced, and both oxidation and deterioration of the separator which is due to the silver-oxide positive electrode is obviated.
