Abstract

PURPOSE:To minimize the thermal deformation of a base metal of a bearing pad, by forming oil grooves in the joint surface of the base metal and a back metal of the bearing pad in the manner that the pitch of the oil grooves is high at a radially middle portion of the joint surface, and thereby obtaining uniform temperature distribution over the entire surface of the base metal. CONSTITUTION:A bearing pad 3 of a thrust bearing is composed of an upper back matal 8 having Babbitt's metal 10 cast therein and a lower base metal 9. In the joint surface of the back metal 8 and base metal 9, there are formed oil grooves 11 in the manner that the pitch of the oil grooves 11 is high at radially middle part of the back metal whereas the pitch thereof at inner and outer peripheral parts of the back metal is low. With such as arrangement, high temperature at the radially middle part of back metal 8 is cooled by oil passing through the oil grooves provided at a higher pitch than that at the other parts, and the high temperature of back metal 8 is not transmitted to base metal 9. Therefore, uniform temperature distribution is attained throughout the entire surface of the base metal 8 from the inner peripheral part to the outer peripheral part, so that thermal deformation is not caused in the base metal.
