Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent wear of a lance, by flowing a specified flow rate of N2 or Ar gas from the midway where O2 gas pressure is reduced into the lance when O2 blowing is completed, so that the oxygen lance may be cooled until it is removed from a high temperature decarbonizing atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: Ar gas supplying pipe 15 and N2 gas supplying pipe 16 are connected to calorizing lance 14 used as a top-blowing oxygen lance. When the O2 blowing is completed, Ar gas or N2 gas is blown from lance 14 through pipe 15 or 16 at the midway where O2 gas pressure is reduced. In this case, the flow rate of O2 gas is reduced gradually until it becomes zero and only Ar or N2 gas is blown from lance 14 finally. Blowing of this Ar gas or N2 gas for purging is continued until the vacuum decarbonizing is completed and vacuum cover removing works are commenced due to leaking. The most effective flow rate of this Ar gas or N2 gas is ≥60Nl/min per cm2 of cross section of lance 14.
