Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate a connection with optical fiber by improving mechanical vibration resistance and also to obtain a stable, miniature light circuit by using optical fiber for each element and then by fixing them in a groove in a substrate.
CONSTITUTION: This isolator is equipped with substrate 18, cover part 19 of input optical fiber 14, cover part 20 of output optical fiber 15, optical fiber 21 for a polarizer having the flank cut at the complementary angle of the Brewster's angle, optical fiber 22 for an analyzer having the flank cut and polished at the complementary angle of the Brewster's angle, and magnetic crystal optical fiber 23 that provides optical activity in a magnetic field. Then, respective fibers 14, 21, 23, 22, and 15 are fixed in series on substrate 18 with optical axes agreeing. Further, respective fibers are bonded in and fixed to groove 24 made in substrate 18. With regard to fibers 21, 23 and 22, the polarization direction and optical rotation are set at 45° respectively and the light circuit operates as a light isolator.
