Abstract

PURPOSE:To lower the cost and loss of a connector which connects a plurality of optical fibers arranged in a pair of concave type substrates by butting their end faces in such a manner that their optical axes align to each other, by fixing the optical fibers in the predetermined arranging positions of the concave substrates by means of a guide plate provided with plural positioning U-grooves. CONSTITUTION:U-grooves which determine the arranging positions of optical fibers are molded in a thin guide plate 5 of phosphor bronze or stainless steel with precision and the concave part face of a concave type substrate 6 of epoxy resin or the like by using the same dies. Optical fibers 4a-4d with their end faces aligned are fitted into the U-grooves of the guide plate 5, and are fixed in the recesses of the concave type substrate 6 by means of an adhesive agent or the like. Next, a keep plate 7 formed of the same material as that of the substrate 6 is fitted into the recesses and is fixed by means of an adhesive agent. A pair of such optical fiber holding substrates 9A, 9B, butted at their end faces, are inserted into an inner sleeve 8 and are fixed to outer sleeves 10A, 10B by means of a cap nut 11. This yields the low-cost and low-loss optical connector.
