Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction of a specific benzophenone imine with a metal oxide gives the titled compound very useful as an intermediate for synthesis of hydrazine.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction between a benzophenone imine and of formula I (R1, R2 are 1W10C aliphatic or alicyclic; R1, R2 may incorporate to show one bond or group; m, n are 0, 1W5 integer) and a metal oxide such as nickel monoxide is carried out at a temperatuer of 60W300°C usually for 0.01W10hr to produce a benzophenone azine of formula II.
EFFECT: Since the oxidation can be effected even when the reaction system is kept an inert gas atmosphere such as nitrogen, dangers such as explosion can be avoided. Since the oxidizing agent is heterogeneous, it is recovered through simple operations and can be reused by repetition of oxidation.
