Abstract
PURPOSE: To make the titled filter material inexpensive and to enhance the durability thereof by a method wherein oyster shells, lime stones, crystalline schist of the Tertiary formation and charcoal having an appropriate particle size respectively are mixed and the obtained mixture is solidified into a specific shape by a cement to form a filter material.
CONSTITUTION: Oyster shells with 5W10mm particle size 40%; lime stones with 3W5mm particle size 20%; crystalline schist of the Tertiary formation with 1W5mm particle size 20%; and charcoals with 3W10mm particle size 20%; are mixed and solidified by a cement to form a main body 1. This filter material is one of which a surface area is widen by providing a hole 2 and 20 recessed and protruded portions on it's periphery to increase an attaching amount of microorganisms and, if said filter material is immersed in a sewage and air is diffused therethrough, because a large through, because a large amount of microorganisms are propagated on the surface thereof, ammoniacal nitrogen, phosphorus, ABS, colors or the like in a sewage are removed. In this case, the shell is contributed to the sticking of microorganisms, the lime stone to the acid decomposition in a sewage, the crystalline schist to the removal of colors and the charcoal is used as a nutrition component for propagating microorganisms.
