Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the propulsion efficiency and to make the manufacturing of a contra-redder easier by having the upper half and lower half of the contra-rudder at respectively uniform twist angle.
CONSTITUTION: A contra-rudder 31 is divided into an upper half and lower half by the center line of a propeller and consists of a stream lined upper rudder plate 311 and lower rudder 312, a tubular lower shaft 326 which also function a constituting member of the rudder shaft, supporting plates 313, 314, 315 and 316 and auxiliary plate 317 all of which designating the shape of the respective rudder plates 311 and 312 and being structure members thereof. The rear part of the upper rudder plate 311 is twisted counterclockwise looking from the top uniformly from its top end to bottom end and the lower rudder plate 312 is similarly twisted clockwise. Thus, the rotating energy in the stream generated by propeller is converted to the forward thrust on the entire surface of the respective rudder plate to increase the thrust efficiency. The quandric surface of the entire rudder plate makes the manufacturing easier.
