Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain superior silver peroxide with low self-dischargeability for a cell by adding alkali hydroxide and alkali persulfate to an aqueous silver nitrate soln. and adding lead salt or metallic lead powder to the resulting silver peroxide.
CONSTITUTION: To an aqueous silver nitrate soln. is added 3.5W12 times as much alkali hydroxide as silver nitrate by mol, and they are reacted at 70W95°C for 3W 60min with stirring to form silver oxide. Alkali persulfate is then added, and by continuing stirring at 80W95°C for 15W40min, silver peroxide is formed. The silver peroxide precipitate is separated and washed. To the resulting silver peroxide is further added lead salt or metallic lead powder so that 0.01W10.0wt% lead is contained. Part of alkali hydroxide may be mixed into the aqueous silver nitrate soln. used. The amount is, however, restricted to less than the equimolar amount, and it is required to make a state free from alkali.
