PURPOSE:To realize an A/D converter with high accuracy and less power consumption without losing high speed, by using auxiliary comparators so that the operating current of other comparators can be reduced through a part of comparators to be operated by looking a certain time. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of comparators C1'-C63' having a reference voltage corresponding to each quantized level and in parallel location, and auxiliary comparators SC1-SC3 provided at each comparator group after the division of the comparators into a given number, are provided. Further, input signals are compared by the auxiliary comparators SC1-SC3 and also compared by comparator groups split into a given number adjacent each other, which are operated with the result of comparison of the auxiliary comparators SC1-SC3.
