PURPOSE:To eliminate completely the residual DC magnetic field on the magnetic tape, by installing an electromagnetic device which generates the magnetic field having the opposite polarity to cancel the residual magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:Both the recording/reproducing head 4 and the erasing head 5 slide onto the tape surface with travelling of the magnetic tape 1. At the same time, the electromagnet 6 and the Hall device 7 are allowed to contact slidably onto the tape surface interlocking to the head 5. When the tape 1 travels in touch with the head 5, a DC erasion is given to the contents of the tape recorded previously. At the same time, the tape is magnetized to the N pole. After this, the magnetized area of the tape touches in running the device 7, and thus the output voltage according to the magnetization of the tape at that moment is produced. And the difference between the output voltage and that in the nonmagnetic field state of the Hall device 10 is applied to the magnet 6 via the operational amplifier 12 and the amplifier 14.
