Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the cross modulation distortion and the mutual modulation distortion, by increasing the bias current to the balanced modulator circuit according to the increase of the input level of the signal and at the same time reducing the level of the local oscillation signal.
CONSTITUTION: The transistors (TR)Q17∼Q20, Q15 and Q16 plus resistor R14 form a double modulator circuit; while the TRs Q13 and Q14 form the constant current source to the TRs Q15 and Q16, respectively. The voltage which is applied to the input terminal 23 and varies in a DC way increases in the positive direction according to the increase of the signal input voltage supplied from the antenna and applied to the input terminal 20. Thus the bias current of the TRs Q15 and Q16 increases according to the increase of the signal input voltage. As a result, the input level increases for the maximum allowable signal. At the same time, the local oscillation injection level to be injected to the double balanced modulator circuit through the input terminal 19 lowers down with reduction of the AC impedance of the FETQ9. Thus the frequency conversion conductance is lowered. Thus both the cross modulation distortion and the mutual modulation distortion, which are caused by the increase of the intermediate frequency signal level at the output terminal 21, can be reduced.
