Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve a water turbine efficiency, by a method wherein a flow-in path is bent in the same direction as that of a casing spiral.
CONSTITUTION: A preliminary whirl flow path 6 having a spiral angle ϕO is positioned at an upstream side outside a point A where an outer shell 1a of a casing spiral terminal section crosses a stay vane 3 row. A centrifugal force excercises on a flow from the upper stream at the preliminary whirl flow path 6 and said flow changes from an uniform flow 9 to a free spiral type speed distribution 10 on a flow cross section surface, whereby a well-rectified flow is obtained at a stay vane inlet and over the whole circumference. That is, after the free spiral flow speed distribution is realized at the preliminary whirl flow path 6, the flow reaches a point A and afterwards, whereby the influence by a secondary flow can be uniformalized in the circumferential direction and accordingly, a peak proper of the secondary flow is not produced. After flow-in water passes through the stay vanes 3, it enters into runner blades 5a through guide vanes to rotate runners 5.
