Abstract

PURPOSE:To minimize the secondary-flow loss near the tips of stator blades, by increasing th thickness and the chord length of the stator blades from the portion of the blade length where the secondary-flow loss is caused to the tip of the blade gradually toward the upstream side of the main flow from the root portion toward the tip portion of the stator blades. CONSTITUTION:A stator blade 16 located on the upstream side of a rotor blade 23 in respect of main flow 15 is shaped such that its chord length is increased DELTAC gradually from the root portion 17 fixed to a lower diaphragm 21 toward the tip portion 18 fixed to an upper diaphragm 22 and its thickness is increased gradually toward the upstream side of main flow 15. Resultantly, as for the pressure on the upper side of the stator blade, pressure at point F on the root side of the blade is always higher than that at point E on the tip side of the blade. As for the pressure on the lower side of the stator blade, however, there is no substantial difference in the pressure at poient E and that at point F. Therefore, the pressure difference on the upper side of the stator blade functions to prevent the secondary flow caused at the tip portion of the blade from flowing toward the root portion, so that the secondary-flow loss at the tip portion of the blade can be minimized effectively.
