Abstract

913,620. Axial-flow compressors. SZYDLOWSKI, J. Jan. 23, 1961 [Feb. 3, 1960], No. 2628/61. Addition to 757,471. Class 110 (1). In an impeller for an axial-flow compressor, particularly a compressor forming part of an aircraft jet-propulsion or gas turbine plant operating at transonic and supersonic speeds, the cross-section of each blade at the tip has a profile with two successive opposed curvatures while the cross-section at the root has a profile with a single curvature. At the tip of each blade, the camber line C 4 , Fig. 4, has a portion C 4b near the trailing edge 10 with centre of curvature at O 4b and a portion C 4a of opposite curvature near the leading edge 9 with centre of curvature at O 4a .The blade is twisted from root to tip, as shown in Fig. 5, the cross-sections progressively changing from the double-curved form at the tip to a single-curved form at the root.
