Abstract

PURPOSE: To generate a powerful swirl in a combustion chamber in a low-speed running and increase a charging efficiency in a high-speed and high-load running by forming a mixture outlet which opens above a helical suction port and communicating the outlet with a communication passage common to each cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture from a carbureter 24 is sent to an inlet passage A from an intake manifold 24. Some of it flows along upper wall faces 17, 18 and is accelerated because those faces gradually get narrower toward a crossing point W'. After passing the crossing point W', the mixture is forced to run along a side wall face 15 of a spiral part B in a spiral direction C by a wall face 11a of a projection containing a cylindrical hollow. The downward swirl generated in the spiral part B causes the other mixture flowing into an annular outlet 13, to be swirled. Thereby, a powerful swirl in a spiral direction B occurs at the annular outlet 13. While passing through a clearance formed between a suction valve 5 and a valve seat, the swirl grows more and flows into a combustion chamber 4.
