PURPOSE:To enable to save the transmission of the signal at a blank space while keeping the state of an original, by detecting each line in the video information of transmission original if it is white line, and transmitting only the line numbers which subtracts the white line numbers from all the scanning line numbers. CONSTITUTION:The transmission original is read in at the read-in section 4, it is converted into an electric signal and compressed at a data compression section 5. This compressed information is tentatively stored in a video information memory 6. Further, the total line number of the original is detected at an end of line detection section 8, and the number of white lines at the space of the original is detected at a white line detection section 9. Next, at a subtraction circuit 12, the number of white lines is subtracted from the total line number and the result is given to a SCU (system control unit)13. When the number of lines read out from a video information memory 6 and transmitted reaches this result of subtraction, the SCU13 gives the transmission stop instruction to the video information memory 6.
