Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a can cap seaming tool which consists in finishing the easiest- to- wear outside surface part of a seaming chuck and a lifter plate to extra high hardness by covering this with TiC and which considerably improves abrasion resistance and durability and achieves the improvement in the quality of can containers and their high-speed large-volume production.
CONSTITUTION: The slip phenomenon between the inside circumferential surface 1b of the can cap 1 of a can cap seaming tool A and the easiest-to-wear slip part 4a of a seaming chuck 4 in contact with said surface is prevented as follows. After the grinding of the surfaces of these contact parts, the surfaces are roughed to about 5W15μ by honing etc., thence TiC treatment is applied on the rought surfaces to be stably deposited and covered with TiC of 5W20μ. The top surface of the lifter plate 3 which is easiest-to-wear owing to the rubbing action during carrying-in and out of the can bottom 2b of the top placed can body 2 is ground, after which it is amoothed by lapping etc. to form a smooth surface, on which a pure TiC layer of 5W20μ is further deposited and coated.
