Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the color resolution as in case the band of the color difference signal is extended, by adding the high-range component of the luminance signal to the color difference signal in proportion to the color saturation degree of the image. CONSTITUTION:The luminance signal Y is applied to the filter 1 for isolation of bands, and only the high-range component YH is extracted. Then the component YH is supplied the nonlinear circuit 2 to obtain the output signal YH' which suppressed the positive part of the component. This signal YH' is supplied to the modulator 3, and the color difference signals R-Y, B-Y and G-Y which are the input signals of the other side are modulated each to obtain the modulated color difference signals R'-Y', B'-Y' and G'-Y'. In such way, the modulated color difference signal C'-Y' (C': R', B' or G') is used in place of the original color difference signal C (C: R, B or G), and thus the color difference signal can contain the high-range component. As a result, the resolution can be increased greatly at the colored area when the color picture is reproduced.
