Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of cross color by making gamma corrections after passing each primary-color signal through a band-suppressing circuit and then by setting the suppressed band to the band widths of upper and lower color signals with a sampling frequency of one half between both the signals. CONSTITUTION:Outputs of image pickup elements 1R-1B that takes pictures of respective separated primary-color images are applied to sample holding circuits 2R-2B and waveform-shaped there. Those waveform-shaping outputs are applied to band-suppressing circuits 20R-20B, which limit signal band components of primary-color signals to remove high-frequency components included in the image pickup outputs, and gamma correcting circuits 3R-3B make gamma corrections. Those gamma- corrected signals are applied to matrix circuit 5, which generates and supplies color- difference signals R-Y and B-Y and low-frequency luminance signal YL to encoder 9. At this time, bands to be suppressed are set to band widths of upper and lower color signals with a 1/2 sampling frequency between the both, thereby preventing the generation of cross color.
