Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled ester in a good yield by a simple method wherein thiophenols or diphenyl disulfides are subjected to the electrolytic reaction in the presence of a lower aliphatic carboxylic acid and a lower alcohol.
CONSTITUTION: Thiophenol (PhSH) or diphenyl disulfide (PhSSPh) having or not having a substituent on a nucleus is subjected to the electrolytic reaction in the presence of a lower aliphatic carboxylic acid (R2COOH) and a lower alcohol (R1OH) in an electrolytic tank without a diaphragm by using an electrode stable under a reaction condition of platinum or carbon. After reaction, the R2COOH solvent is removed by distillation and, after washing by an aqueous alkali solution, ether extraction is carried out and phenylsulfinic acid water (PhSOOR1) is obtained as an objective substance from an extracted layer by a conventional method.
