Abstract

PURPOSE: A graft copolymer having improved solvent resistance, mechanical properties, e.g., impact resistance, etc. without causing phase separation of resin, obtained by adding a specific compound to polyphenylene oxide and polyamide, followed by blending in molten state.
CONSTITUTION: A phenol compound shown by the formula (R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5 are H, halogen, etc.) is subjected to oxidative polymerization using an oxidative coupling catalyst, e.g., cupric chloride-trimethylamine, etc. to give polyphenylene oxide resin, which is blended with 5W59wt% polyamide, e.g., 6-nylon, etc. to give a resin mixture. 100pts.wt. resin mixture is blened with preferably 0.1W20pts wt. epoxy compound of higher olefin and/or condensate of bifunctional phenol, e.g., bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin at 150W350°C in molten state, to give the desired graft copolymer.
