Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide means for easy gas filling of a shock absorber without installing any special filling valve by forming a gas filling passage between a sealing member and a ring-nut which supports said member and opening/closing said passage by a lip of the sealing member. CONSTITUTION:In the gap filling process, the lower end of a hollow jig 24 is slipped over the outer circumference of an outer tube 1 via a seal 25 until a piston rod 3 in a compressed condition comes in contact with a stopper 26 of the jig 24. Required high pressure gas is introduced into the jig 24 from an outside source which is then introduced into an oil chamber 9 through a hole 18, a chamber 19, grooves 20 and 22 made on a sealing member 14, and a lip 22 bent inward, and then into a reservoir 4 through a passage 10. When predetermined quantity of the gas is supplied its pressure acts on the piston rod 3 pushing it up, the force of which is detected at the stopper 26 and measured by a meter 27 for removal of the jig 24.
