Abstract

PURPOSE: To make bearings compact and prevent water pollution, etc. by a system wherein water lubrication instead of the conventional oil lubrication is adopted for bearings which are suitable for use in the main shaft of a water wheel for a water- wheel generator.
CONSTITUTION: An impeller 16 is fixed to the lower flange 14 of a main water- wheel shaft 10, and a casing cover 34 is arranged above the impeller 16. Then the bearing housing 36 with a ring-shaped vertical portion is fixed onto the cover. A ring-shaped segment-supporting plate 40 is attached to the lower part of the housing 36, and a segment bed metal 42 is arranged in a position corresponding to an adjusting screw 38. In addition, a segment pad 46, which is made from a nonmetal offering superior water-lubricating characteristics such as a resin, is attached to the side of the segment bed metal 42 being subject to friction. Furthermore, a packing box 48 having a built-in seal 50 is attached to the under surface of the housing 36. Water is used as a lubricant in the above constitution.
