Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a constant voltage which can be varied by the gate voltage, by connecting, the drain of the MOSFET to the power source through a resistance and by applying such voltage to the gate that the circuit between the source and the drain is broken down.
CONSTITUTION: The source of MOSFET Q is grounded, and resistance RL is connected between the drain and power source terminal VD, and bias power source VGS is applied to the gate. The dielectric strength between the source and the drain of MOSFET Q is determined by the value of gate bias power source VGS, and a voltage equal to this dielectric strength is obtained at output terminal VOUT connected to the drain of MOSFET Q. This voltage can be varied by gate bias power source VGS. The circuit between the source and the drain of MOSFET Q becomes a very small impedance when it is broken down, and thus, a constant voltage can be obtained independently of the connected load.
