Abstract

PURPOSE: To restrain the water in a water level meter from flowing out into a reactor core at the time of an abrupt decrease in pressure and to detect the water level correctly even after the accident by providing an orifice at the junction part between the upper pipe and the reference water level unit of the water gauge.
CONSTITUTION: The orifice 8 is provided at the junction part 3 between the upper pipe 2 and the reference water level unit 4 of the water gauge. When the pressure in the reactor decreases abruptly as a result of an accident in the reactor, the water in the water gauge boils under the reduced pressure and the water in the reference water level unit 4 flows out into the reactor. In this case, when the orifice 8 exists, a pressure difference is generated across the orifice 8 and the flowing resistance is increased, so that the amount of water flowing out into the reactor core is largely reduced. Accordingly, the change of the water level in the reference water level unit 4 at the time of the abrupt decrease in pressure is reduced, and the water level in the reactor can be detected correctly even after the accident.
