Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an input surface for a picture multiplier tube, which surface has a high luminance brightness and does not develop any picture distortion even when an X-ray of high intensity is irradiated, by setting the total resistance of an auxiliary layer and photoelectron-radiating surface at a specific value and also the light transmission rate of the auxiliary layer per se at a specific value. CONSTITUTION:On a surface of a substrate plate 15 made of a material capable of transmitting high energy ray therethrough, such as aluminum, a layer 16 of a fluorescent substance consisting of, for example, a deposited layer of cesium iodide is formed. An auxiliary layer 17 made of an electrically conductive material pincipally made of indium oxide is further formed on the layer 16. The light transmission percentage of the auxiliary layer 17 itself is set at 40% or higher. In addition, a photoelectron radiating surface 18 consisting for example of a compound, which contains antimony and an alkali metal, is formed on the auxiliary layer 17. The total resistance of the auxiliary layer 17 and photoelectron radiating surface 18 is set at a value smaller than 100MOMEGA. By doing so, an input surface for a picture multiplier tube, which surface has a high luminance brightness and does not develop any picture distortion, can be obtained.
