Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce a measurement error by correcting the material quality of the radiant ray type thickness meter as result of a lap check.
CONSTITUTION: A strip 10, after being rolled to a prearranged thickness, passes through a sensing end 16 of high-precision X ray thickness meter arranged at the outlet of finish rolling mill 12. The strip is measured on the thickness at the sensing end and woun up by take-up reel 14. Pulse generator 18, 20 is connected to the wor rolls 12a, 12b of the rolling mill 12 and pulse generator 22 is also linked to the take-up reel 14. These output pulses are input to digital thickness meter 26 and the outside diameter values of work rolls 12a, 12b and the value of the average thickness of steel sheet wound up by at take-up reel 14. This value is transmitted to the control part 24. The sheet thickness measured at the sensing end is input real time to the control part 24. The control part 24 operates for a quality correction value based onthe difference of these sheet thicknesses, time difference in signals of both sheet thicknesses, the quantity of steel sheet already taken up, etc. In this way, the output of the sensing end 16 is corrected.
