Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the molybdenum material with an enhanced weldability by performing a powder metallurgical process in which the oxygen content and the sum of iron, nickel, chromium, etc. are specifically related in molybdenum power
CONSTITUTION: When the powder metallurgical process is used to prepare the molybdenum material, some contents in molybdenum powder are specified so that the sum of nickel, iron, and chromium, and other nonvolatile is less than 200ppm and oxygen less than 30ppm, or alternativele the former from 200W500ppm and oxygen less than 15ppm. Such a molybdenum powder is provided by repurification of ammonium paramolybdata with 99.99% purity to obtain 99.999% purity, which is subjected to repeated hydrogen reduction using a molybdenum boat to give particles of 3W5 μ. Such molybdenum powder is compression-formed in inert gas, and is sintered in hydrogen, etc. The process provides the molybdenum material having theoretical density and not producing pores by welding.
