Abstract

PURPOSE: Melt-extruded synthetic filaments with H-shaped cross section are cooled asymmetrically by blowing cool air from a specific direction, heat drawn and heat treated under relax to produce inexpensively yarns with high crimp performance.
CONSTITUTION: Filaments melt-extruded from the spinneret with H-shaped slits in cross sections is cooled once, then heat drawn and heat treated under relax to produce crimp yarns wherein the cooling air is blown from the direction of the leg part of H-shape in filaments to effect asymetric cooling. The angle between the line L running from the center P of the bridge 3 in H-shape to the leg ends 2 and the vertical line H from the center P is preferably less than 30°, especially 15° or less. The dimension of parts a through e in the H-shaped slit is desired to satisfy equations IWIV. The cooling air is blown preferably at 1W4m/sec vertically to the running filaments.
