Abstract
PURPOSE: To form beautiful verdigris artificially, by contacting the surface of a cathode with the surface of copper or copper alloy, which serves as an anode, with interposition of holding material of electrolyte for generating verdigris.
CONSTITUTION: Beautiful verdigris having good adhesive property is formed on the surface of copper or copper alloy in a shorttime. The surface of a cathode is contacted with the surface of the copper or copper alloy with interposition of a holdig material which is impregnated with electrolyte for generating verdigris, and electrolysis is conducted with the copper or copper alloy used as an anode. For the electrolyte is used sodium carbonate about 10W80g/l in concn., sodium hydrogencarbonate about 10W120g/l in concn., or ammonium sulfate about 5W40g/l in concn. When carbonate is used, about 9W11pH is preferable. Cotton cloth, or sponge is used as the holding material. The electrolysis is carried out at 10W45°C electrolyte temp., 1W100A/dm2 current density, 0.5W5min electrolysis time. The verdigris formed by this method turns clearer bluish-green when heated to about 100W200°C.
