Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable continuous measurement even when the change of speed is large by a method wherein the uneven signals of light from a moving surface are detected by means of two pairs of detectors, the polarity correlation of the signals is calculated, and control for catching the peak of the wave-form is conducted.
CONSTITUTION: Detectors 1a, 1b are arranged at locations where can detect the uneven signals of light from the moving surface at fixed interval, the output signals are provided to Schmidt circuits 4, a shift register 5, an EX-NOR circuit 6 and a CR low-pass filter 7, and polarity correlation is calculated. A microcomputer 10 takes in polarity correlation output, conducts processing necessary for the measurement of speed, and controls the pulse intervals of the shift register 5 while displaying speed to an annunciator 13. Thus, a peak is detected from a polarity correlation wave-form, speed can be obtained by conducting control for cathcing the peak, and the speed can continuously be measured even when the change of speed is large.
