Abstract

PURPOSE: Fiber of polymer consisting of cellulose acetate and acrylic polymer is in sequence subjected to primary drawing, drying and secondary drawing to produce titled fiber with a specified void volume and high water absorption property.
CONSTITUTION: A 15W35% solution of polymer in an organic solvent where the polymer consists of (A) 2W30wt% of cellulose acetate and (B) 70W98wt% of acrylic polymer is made into fiber by extruding it into a coagulation bath, drawn primarily at a draw ratio of 2.5W8 and the fiber swollen with water is dried in a drier at 100W180°C until the water content becomes less than 1.0%. The resultant fiber is secondarily drawn with wet heat at a draw ratio of less than 3 to produce titled porous fiber with a surface area A of void of less than 15m2/g and void volume V of 0.05W0.75cm2/g where V/A is more than 1/30. Component A is preferably dispersed in the form of stripe along the fiber direction and component B preferably contains more than 80% of acrylonitrile.
