Abstract

PURPOSE: Specific amounts of cellulose acetate and other polymers are used and they are kept under phase-separation states and made into fiber to give the titled fiber with a specified porosity, pore surface area, high water absorption, dyeability and yarn performance.
CONSTITUTION: Cellulose acetate (55W98wt%) and another polymer, preferably an acrylic polymer, (2W45wt%) are dissolved in, e.g., dimethylformamide (abbreviated to DMF) and the solution is extruded into a coagulation bath of DMF aqueous solution to form hollow fiber of phase-separated polymer alloy. Then, the primary drawing is effected at less than 3 draw ratio, rinsed with water, dried at 105W150°C and the secondary drawing is conducted at 100W120°C to produce the objective fiber with big pores, which has porosity V of 0.05W0.75cm3/g and pore surface area A of 15m2/g where V/A is preferably more than 1/30.
